How to make a box out of rest materials

Image
This is a box for my niese's confirmation. It is made of rest materials from previous builds. It is made of birch and mahogany. The lid is a piece of old drawer, I got it from a friend. and I am ot 100% sure what it is. It was made by using a table saw and very few hand tools. It took about three evenings plus oiling to make this box.       So, what materials do I have...           Still measuring my rest materials and laying them out to have a good look.         This is how I got it through the planer. The piece itself was to thin so I put it on top of another board which have a little lip at the end. I think it is an IKEA shelf or something. I planed it to get all the old fiinsh of and get it flat.         I put a groove in the mahogany so the lid of the box can fit in it.  This is the edge of the lid of the box.        Cut them to size, and lay them on to tape. This makes it easy to glue it togheter. DON'T forget to fit the lid in when gluing... Try not to get to much glue

How to build a custom mahogany gun case? Some pics and tips from my vintage style shotgun case project. NB: A LOT OF THE PICTURES OF THE BUILD IS MISSING, I AM WORKING OUT WHAT HAPPENED...

The gun case is made from mahogany and oak. The li

Instrument case for birch bark lure/ Skrin til bjørkelur

A new job in my shop, I'm making a case for a birch bark lure from Naturinstrumenter.no  going to Sunnmørsmuseet. Doing some box joint by hand, but I do not practise this enough! I will advise everyone to practise the different woodworking skills as much a possible, it takes practise... An update from the project in photos. Please comment or if you have any questions feel free to contact me! Finished job, all birch, inside and out! The instrument itself, birch lure.  Oiling with Finishing oil    Getting somewhere!   fitting the lure  lining the lid with wool baze usually used on sneaker tables! Gluing an instrument or gun case is hectic! The start: The humble start of a new project. Sawing and planeing on a jointer to get the material as I want it.  Laying out for measurement    using tape to have something to lay my tools against for more excact cutting. It also prevent scars on my wood. I need a better saw, but it is n

Shot gun stock extension

Image
I got a new job to extend a shot gun stock 20mm. I don't have any walnut so it is made out of Mahogany. First  job is to attach, line up and drill holes to the  buttplate.   Then I screwed it to the stock with the mahogany piece in between. To get the extension to fit I simply marked around, both the stock siden and the rump plate side. Then it was all sandpaper to get the right fit.       I  put on three strokes of dye (Liberon Edwardian mahogany) before oiling it with Liberin Finishing oil.  I also rubbed the stock with 00 steel wool, before applaying three layers with finishing oil. Remember to have a quick rub with steel wool between layers.   Three layers of Finishing oil.     The forestock is also in need of some care... Finished, didn't match the colour of the plate too well, but the fit is perfect!

How to make a panel door

Image
My kids playhouse called the "treehouse" is a slow, but steady build. Last year the house itself was done, and now there is only more paint and windows that are missing. The paneldoor is finally ready! I have had a couple of pine beds lying around for quite a while to be convertet into the door. Here is some pictures from this fun and not so hard woodworking project!   Almost finished, just doing the plugs to secure the panels and making the dor frame rigid and strong.   Where it all startet, an old pine bed   Putting it togheter to make adjustments to the thickness of the panel edges.   Gluing, always a terrifying exercise! It's important to make sure that the panels can "flow" freely inside the fram.
